Learning to make a website yourself

These days websites are springing up like mushrooms – each one more beautiful than the next. But unfortunately huge numbers of poor-quality websites can also be found on the World Wide Web. Of course you want to guard against this if you decide to create your own website, or if you want to start setting up your own office...

Just what is involved in creating your own website? And what knowledge do you need?

A website

A website is nothing more than a collection of web pages (or one page) which is hosted on a web server. On the surface a website can of course have a variety of appearances. But below the surface it's one huge (source) code. In the most basic websites different types of code can be distinguished in the source code, such as HTML, CSS and PHP.

Additionally there is the actual appearance of the website. This is often created in Photoshop. Photoshop is an extended variant of Paint, as it were, with which you can produce the most beautiful creations.

What knowledge?

To create a (dynamic) website, you thus need to be familiar with:

  • HTML & CSS
  • PHP
  • Photoshop

HTML & CSS are relatively easy to master. PHP and Photoshop require a somewhat more extensive knowledge level.

Learning

To master the various components, you can of course buy a book and get going with that. But it is of course nicer to learn through interactive lessons such as simulation videos, instruction videos and knowledge tests.

Especially for this, we also offer several high-quality e-learning courses:

  • Get started with HTML5 and CSS3
  • PHP Basic Knowledge
  • Adobe Photoshop CS5 – Visual Communication
